Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination, often referred to as SSC CGL is an examination conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for selecting staff for various Group B and Group C posts. The Staff Selection Commission was established in 1975.
Candidates applying for the various posts need to have a bachelor's degree from a recognised university at the time of applying. Age of the candidate must be between 18 and 27 years as of January 1 of the test taking year. The application fee for 2017 was Rs. 100. All women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying application fee.

SSC CGL 2017 Exam Pattern
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) every year in four levels for various posts. Exam Pattern - The Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below:

Before beginning the SSC CGL preparation, it is important to make note of changes in exam pattern and syllabus. The modifications to SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2017 for Tier 1 & 2 are given below:
• SSC CGL 2017 Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam will be conducted in online mode.
• Introduction of a descriptive paper of 100 marks within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
• Reduction in time limit for examination of Tier -I from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.
• Tier II will remain same.
• No Sectional Cut off.
SSC CGL 2017 Syllabus
Since the SSC CGL is comprised of 4 different levels, we must deal with their syllabus independently.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Syllabus
This is an objective exam which will be conducted online. There are 4 sections in the Tier 1 exam of SSC CGL 2017, with 100 questions which account for a total of 200 marks. The time duration of Tier-1 will be 60 minutes. The subject-wise details are given below:

Important Points:
• There is negative marking in SSC CGL 2017 Tier 1 Exam. Giving a wrong answer to a question will lead to a penalty of 0.5 marks in all sections
• The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus
This is an objective exam which will be conducted online. There are 4 sections in the Tier 2 exam of SSC CGL 2017, with 100 questions which account for a total of 200 marks. The subject-wise details are given below:

SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam Syllabus
This is a descriptive exam that is designed to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. It is conducted offline and candidates need to write Essay/Letter/Application/Precis. The best way to prepare for the same is to read lots of articles from various newspapers. Apart from this, you need to be well aware of the pattern of Letter and Application.
Important Points:
• The exam is of 60 minutes’ duration and carries 100 marks.
• The questions are based on 10+2 level.
• The exam is qualifying in nature.
• The exam duration is 80 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped or suffer from cerebral palsy.
SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam Syllabus
The Tier 4 of SSC CGL Exam 2017 comprises of a couple of skill tests which are required for certain government posts.
1. DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): This skill test is of qualifying nature for all the posts, other than Compiler, and is used to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given printed matter in English which they must accurately type on a computer with a minimum of 2000 (two thousand) key depressions in a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes.
2. CPT (Computer Proficiency Test):The Commission will hold CPT, comprising three modules - Word Processing, Spread Sheet and Generation of Slides, for applicants for the post of Assistants of CSS. CPT will be of a qualifying nature
Application Fee: General, OBC and UR candidates have to pay Rs. 100/- through net-banking, credit/debit card or cash mode using SBI Bank Challan. SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PH and Women candidates are exempted from paying any fee.
How to Apply for SSC CGL 2017
The SSC CGL Online filling up of application will start from 16th May 2017 to 16th June 2017. The link is active now on the official website of SSC .

- Here you will get the notification for SSC CGLE Graduate Level Exam 2017.
- Click on the notification link and read all the details present in it.
- Now go on the SSC Online Portal i.e. ssconline.nic.in
- Here you need to register yourselves first and after it you need to fill up SSC Online CGL Application Form 2017 in parts.
- You need to complete the part 1 involving personal details, permanent postal address, education, preference of exam center etc.
- In Part two you need to make the online payment of application fees and uploaded photo and signature.
- Now recheck the application forms and submit all the details.
- On successful submission you can note down the Registration ID and Password.
- These details will be utilized to obtain SSC CGL Hall Ticket, Editing SSC CGL 2017-18 Application Form etc.
SSC CGL 2017 Cutoff Marks
Applicants are required to secure minimum marks to clear both the levels of SSC CGL Tier-I as well as Tier-II. If a candidate qualifies Tier-I then only he/she is eligible to appear for SSC CGL Tier-II. After qualifying the 3rd phrase i.e. Tier-III the candidate has to face the final round which includes computer skill test or skill test.
SSC CGL 2017 Admit Card
CGL 2017 Tier-1 exam admit card will be issued on its official regional websites.
The Commission will not send CGL admit card by mail post thus candidates need to download their CGL admit card thru online.
Without the valid admit card candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.

Candidates can check their performances in the exam with the help of CGL answer key.
The Commission will upload the CGL answer keys after the exam on its official website.

CGL exam result usually announced after one month from the exam on the official website of SSC.
